North Entrance to Yellowstone

In the spring and the summer, many visitors go to Yellowstone in order to see the famous wolves of Yellowstone, but at that time of the year they are almost impossible to find.  In winter, when they are closer to the road, the best time for finding the wolves are more visible during the day. The wolves can best be seen before dawn near the northern entrance of Yellowstone.  If you see a Jeep with a long wire antenna drive by track it!  These are scientists who use the radio necklaces of the wolves to track them. Zion & Arches National Parks

The range of temperatures is from 21 to 45.  It is definitely chilling, but visually impressive is the white snow which contrasts with the red rocks.  I believe it’s the most beautiful shot in Zion throughout the year.

Ouray Ice Park, Ouray, Colorado

Pictures were taken by photographers at ice climbing in Colorado in January. In January of each year there is an ice festival which is an especially good time to shoot.

Niagara Falls

Winter is an exciting opportunity to shoot the ice in the cascade and the best time to record this occurrence is possibly January.

Lake Superior

In winter, Ice Caves shape along Lake Superior and can be spectacular.

Everglades, Southwest Florida

January is a good time for visiting the Everglades. More alligators than a stick you shake at and a large number of shorebirds are going to be photographed.

Sunrise at Haleakala, Maui, Hawaii

Haleakala is a very large crater that goes up a road.  You will generally be above the clouds when you drive to Haleakala (specified holly AH-cuh-law), so you see a sunrise on a blanket of clouds below. This is an opportunity once in a lifetime. The sunrise is later in the morning and you don’t need to go by 2 am and it’s also the whale watching season, but February is better because there are fewer tourists, it’s a little later on.

The best wildflowers shooting in Texas Hill Country are in late March and early April.  They are beautiful bluebonnets!

Grand Island, Nebraska

The Central Platte Valley is covered with over half a million sandy cranes in the middle to late March.

Yellowstone Wildlife

The best time to view wildlife in Yellowstone is at the end of April and the start of Mai.  There is light transport, the bears are out of winter in the park and animals are actively looking for food. Woles are more difficult to find, because they are less close to the road than many others, but other species at this time of year are more visible than anywhere else.

Waves in Oahu, Hawaii

The Hawaiian waves are quite mild most of the year, but they grow to incredible dimensions during the winter.  If you want to shoot surfers or the surfing waves themselves, this is a great place.  The best spot on the north coast to fire the waves in Hawaii.  There’s far less tourists, and not only are the waves better.  In the big winter waves, be vigilant.  Only if you are a good swimmer, know what to expect from the waves of the sea.
