Six Outdoor Adventures For You And Your Dog

Taking to the outdoors and enjoying your favourite activity doesn’t necessitate leaving your pet behind. In fact, there are now a growing number of activities that are being promoted as great for both owners and pets to enjoy too. This means that, for those with four-legged friends that they can’t bear to leave behind while enjoying an adventure, there are a great many ways for companions to share experiences.

Camping

Journeying out and into the depths of natural environments, whether to experience unbeatable mountain views or the serenity of a forest, is a great opportunity to share an experience with your dog. One must consider their pet’s stamina, ensuring that enough water is available for them to drink, and that breaks are regularly taken to allow them to recover appropriately but, promising this care is taken, dogs will likely revel being outdoors and in new locations, being able to run and explore to their heart’s content.

Paddle Boarding

While not every dog takes well to water, especially the sea, a number might surprise their owners with just how comfortable they are on boards. Paddle boarding with your pet is an increasingly popular activity with boards being able to comfortably accommodate pets as they are escorted across serene waters. If the weather is warm, your dog may even want to jump in for a swim, so be sure to equip them with a floatation jacket first.

Foraging

There are a number of reasons why you might want to bring a dog along foraging. In addition to being an excellent outdoor companion, one that will enjoy investigating lesser explored paths as much as you do, some dogs may even show an affinity for spotting rare wild foods, such as the elusive truffle.

Swimming

Some dogs love the water and at every opportunity will throw themselves into cool and refreshing lakes to splash about. If this sounds like your dog, then it might be worth joining them and making swimming a hobby of your own. This way, each trip to a seafront, river, or lake becomes an opportunity for you and your four-legged friend to enjoy nature together.

Kayaking

Much like paddle boarding, there are a number of ways in which a dog can safely and comfortably join you on your craft. Promising pets are equipped with their own safety gear, many will take well to the water and eagerly join you as you paddle to remote spots to seek out a new adventure or, simply, a secluded spot for a picnic.

Trail Running

For dogs that seem to have endless energy, it may be suitable that they join you on the trail. Running long and short distances can be great exercise for both you and your dog, with the added benefit of trails generally leading through areas of natural beauty. It can be hard to understand your dog’s comfort, however, so be sure to start off slowly and only cover short distances before you build them up to confidently take on new trails.
