What is a sunken ship and its history?
The sunken ship was originally a Batternacle Battling ship completely drowned with all its equipment and tools in the Red Sea near the city of Sharm el-Sheikh in the period of the Second World War in 1941 where the Germans targeted the shells and destroyed them, was discovered in 1956.
The ship sank head-on, its location approximately 31 miles from Naama Bay and approximately 19 from the Ras Mohammed area.
The submerged ship is a fertile breeding ground for coral reefs and many marine plants. It is rare and is a refuge for many of the marine organisms that inhabit them, attracting visitors and tourists to see this fascinating marine life.
To reach the sunken ship area we need to ride a boat or a private yacht from Sharm El Sheikh Marina for three hours inside the Red Sea.
The ship’s wreckage was discovered by pure chance in Shaab Ali area in the western Gulf of Aqaba in 1956 when the Galipso ship, commanded by JacosKosito, passed through.
The ship carried many equipment, steam, armored vehicles, aircraft spare parts, radio communication equipment and other important tools, most of which were stolen during exploration.
