To visit Bhutan, all foreign nationals (except citizens of India) must obtain a Visa for Bhutan before arrival. To obtain a visa, you must book a pre-arranged tour package through a licensed Bhutanese tour operator or an international partner. The tour package includes accommodation, a licensed guide, transportation, meals, and other necessary logistics.
Daily Sustainable Development Fee (SDF):
Sustainable Development Fee (SDF): Bhutan charges a daily Sustainable Development Fee to all tourists, which is USD 100 per person per night (as of 2024). This fee is used to support Bhutan’s sustainable tourism policy, which aims to protect its environment and culture. For Indian US$15.00 per person per night (as of 2024)
This fee is in addition to the cost of the tour package, which covers accommodation, guide services, transportation, meals, and entry fees to various tourist sites.
Visa Application:
Once you have confirmed your tour booking and made the required payments (including the SDF and tour package cost), the tour operator will apply for your visa on your behalf through the Department of Immigration (DOI).
You will need to provide a scanned copy of your colour passport (valid for at least six months from the date of entry into Bhutan).Passport size photograph in colour and Visa form filled up with initials and other details.
Visa Approval:
Department of Immigration of Bhutan processes the visa application, which usually takes 72 hours (3 working days). Upon approval, you will receive a E-Visa, which you must present upon arrival in Bhutan.
The actual visa is stamped into your passport at the point of entry (Paro International Airport or Phuentsholing if entering by land).
Entry Points:

Exemptions and Special Cases
Citizens of India Nationals do not need a visa to enter Bhutan. However, they still need to pay the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) US$15 OR Rs.1200.00 per person per night. Bangladeshi SDF applicable for certain period of time. They must carry a valid passport or voter ID card (for Indian citizens) to obtain an entry permit upon arrival.

Licensed Tour Operator: It’s mandatory to use a licensed tour operator to arrange your trip. Self-guided travel is not allowed in Bhutan.
