Zakynthos is one of the best and most popular islands in Greece. This exceptionally beautiful island is small enough so that you can easily navigate it by car and big enough to offer a diversity of coastlines, villages, and landscapes.
Our list contains some of the coolest things to do on the island of Zakynthos. Here’s how to make the most of your Zakynthos vacation.
#5 Diving With Turtles
The Loggerhead Sea Turtles are permanent residents of the reefs and corals surrounding Zakynthos Island. These magnificent creatures represent some of the oldest forms on earth. Tours cost from 30 to 50 euros and organized by several companies. Just make sure you avoid diving together with too many people because there is a pretty good chance you might disturb the turtles. On the other hand, if it is a small group, there won’t be an issue.
#4 Sunset Dinner at Lofos Restaurant
Dinning at the Lofos Restaurant is about the spectacular view as well as it is about its super-tasty food. And if you are witnessing the sunset, then it all blends into something amazing and memorable. If you were dining in a similar restaurant in Italy or Spain, featuring a similar view, your dinner bill would most likely be astronomic. That’s not the case with the Lofos Restaurant where both food and the drinks are reasonably priced.
#3 Chill at Alykes Beach
This is probably the most beautiful beach on an island. It is a beach with powdery golden sand, a view towards the Ionian sea to die for, and an excellent beach bar serving the perfect cocktails. Plus, the beer there is always ice cold and affordable.
#2 Porto Limnionas
Porto Limnionas is the most scenic cove on Zakynthos. Its multicolored cliffs surround its deep natural harbor which has some of the clearest water ever. The green rocks reflect the sun and make the entire place feel like one gigantic aquarium. Limnionas Tavern is a nearby tavern from where you can enjoy this spectacular view.
#1 Navagio (Shipwreck Cove)
Located at the northeast of the island, Navagio is covered with white limestone cliffs that are a perfect match to the white sand beach, as well as the crystal clear waters. MV Panagiotis is the main attraction, an old container ship that ran aground in 1980. The ship is available for the public, and anyone can get to it to explore it. You can lay low on the beach and enjoy the view. The only real downside is that at the high season the place is packed with tourists.
Zakynthos is one of those islands that wins you over from the moment you get your first Zakynthos airport taxi till you wave it goodbye from your plane. The best advice that one can get on visiting this magnificent island is to absorb it all and don’t hold back. Zakynthos is more than an island; it is an experience that needs to be embraced.
