Whether you are new to hiking or you’ve been doing this for years, we know that you sometimes wonder where to go next.
Here’s some good news: We have listed ten magnificent hiking trails that you should add to your bucket list.
1. Inca Trail
Machu Picchu is a popular bucket-list destination for many people.
If you’re an avid hiker, the best way to see Machu Picchu would be by hiking the Inca Trail. When hiking the Inca Trail, it’s even best that you do this early in the morning. That way, you can enjoy the view of the rising sun over the gorgeous Machu Picchu as you walk towards it.
Of course, the appeal of the Inca Trail isn’t just that it leads to Machu Picchu. The hike itself is terrific, especially since many of the parts of the trail comprise original Incan make. It also allows you to enjoy the mountainscape around you and the other ruins and forests around the area.
2. Devil’s Bridge
The Devil’s Bridge is an excellent hiking destination to take if you find yourself in Arizona.
The Devil’s Bridge that this pertains to would be the naturally occurring sandstone arch that you’d get at the end of the trail. Of course, since the Devil’s Bridge is in Sedona, Arizona, you should bring sun protection and keep yourself hydrated. Other than that, the hike itself is of moderate difficulty.
The hike to the Devil’s Bridge isn’t all that difficult for all it’s worth, even though it seems that it would be more challenging. However, one thing to note is that people who fear heights might not want to cross or be on top of the Devil’s Bridge.
It’s still a short hike to get to it so that it would be a worthwhile stop.
3. Mount Kilimanjaro
Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest summit in the entire African nation. Thus, it makes sense that this hiking destination should be on your bucket list.
Of course, you should take this mammoth on if you’re pretty confident in your hiking skills. However, one thing to note about hiking Mount Kilimanjaro is that it’s not as hard to do, although it is pretty intimidating at first.
The entire hike up to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro should take you around five to nine days, depending on how fast you’re going and your hiking skills.
Of course, there’s no pressure to go as fast as possible. The more comfortable you are, the slower your pace is, the better the hiking experience will be for you.
4. Kalalau Trail
If you’re an experienced hiker, one place that you might want to add to your hiking bucket list would be the Kalalau Trail along the Na Pali coast in Hawaii.
This hiking trail is underrated and is as isolated as a hiking trail since there’s no cell service there. There are even parts of the course that are so precarious that you’re hugging the side of the coast. Thus, it’s best for the more experienced hikers.
5. Milford Track
If you’re an avid hiker, one of the best places to go would be New Zealand. New Zealand even has a series of tracks that cover the best sites and trails that the country offers, called New Zealand’s Great Walks.
There are many excellent hiking trails to choose from there, and one would be the Milford Track. It’s probably the most popular hiking trail in the country, likely because poet Blanche Baughan said that the Milford Track was the “finest walk in the world.”
The hiking trail consists of rainforests and some wetlands, so it would be a good idea to bring your reliable rain jacket with you. It’s best to hike this sometime around October to April, and it’s of moderate difficulty.
6. Kings Canyon Rim Walk
Australia has many bucket list-worthy destinations as well as go-to hiking destinations. An example that does both would be the Kings Canyon Rim Walk.
The Kings Canyon Rim Walk is best done around October to April, and you’ll be able to finish this hike somewhere between three to five hours.
This hike will take you to the top of Kings Canyon, where you can admire the scenery to its fullest. It would be even better if you hike sometime in the early morning. That way, you can admire the light that bounces off the sandstone as the sun rises while you walk.
7. Migration of the Berbers
There’s nothing more bucket-list worthy than taking the hiking tour and joining the Migration of the Berbers. This cultural tradition in Morocco is the last of its kind, where you get to join a nomadic family for several days as they migrate to better conditions. As this only happens twice a year, it’s a hiking trip that will be memorable to you.
8. Kungsleden (The King’s Trail)
Sweden is a gorgeous country filled with many beautiful sights to behold.
A famous hike that you can try in Northern Sweden would be the Kungsleden, also known as the King’s Trail. This trail is the best way to admire the Laplands of Sweden, and it covers about four national parks.
When it comes to hiking destinations worthy of being on your bucket list, this trail should be at the top three at the very least.
9. Laugavegur-Skogar Trail
One of the best hiking trails in the world is one that you can find in Iceland, and it goes by the name of Laugavegur-Skogar Trail. You’ll find all sorts of sights along the way, from striking black volcanic ash to the serene rolling greens of valleys.
Your eyes will want to take in everything you encounter on the trail, so bringing a camera is a definite must.
10. Teton Crest Trail
The Teton Crest Trail in Wyoming, USA, is another hiking trail for the books.
It has stunning views and diverse ecological zones that make it a worthwhile trip. Of course, it can be pretty tricky and, depending on when you hike, you may need some knowledge on the use of ice axes and microspikes.
Although it can be challenging, it’s one of the most beautiful hiking trails in the US, so it’s bucket list material.
These ten hiking destinations are but a few of the many bucket list-worthy hiking trails. So, if you’re still contemplating where to go next, perhaps you can pick one from this list.
